Patrick's story

Patrick's story

Patrick's story...It started like so many people by having a pint after work just to take the edge off things.
That was in my early 20's and by my early 40's I was drinking on average 4-5 Beers a night and a lot more on weekends.
Somehow I'd turned into a functioning alcholic and I didn't even know it!
would take my dogs for a walk and have a cheeky can on the way or would say I was popping out and again have another drink just to hide my addiction from my family.
I opened a can in the house I would cough loudly to hide the noise so my wife wouldn't hear it and then neck it and take the can straight outside to the recycling so she wouldn't see it.
About 3-4 Years ago I became Sober Curious as I knew I had a problem and started reading books like Allen Carr's Easy Way to Control Alcohol and listening to Sober Podcasts and now and again I would manage to have a few days off which looking back showed me the Sober Life I could have.
Then in the Summer of 2023 I managed 3 weeks without Alcohol which was the longest I'd abstained for since I was a teenager and I thought I'd cracked it and could moderate which was a fatal mistake! We went out for a meal and I said I'll just have a couple of beers.
Fast Forward 6 weeks to September 5th 2023 and I've been drinking as heavily as ever since the meal and I'm sat in work.
My hands were shaking and my brain was a complete Foggy mess and I said to myself this can't go on!
I picked up my phone and typed in Sober Coach on Facebook and Matt's page came up and he'd just been to Wales on Holiday near where I come from and I contacted him.
He and his Initiative literally changed my life and I haven't touch a drop since and my life is so much better now in so many ways!
Absolutley fantastic achievement! Let's show Patrick some love folks and if you want to share your recovery story please get in touch. Your story could kickstart someone's recovery journey

"Recovery is Possible" is a raw and unfiltered journey through addiction, trauma, and the fight for sobriety. Matt, a recovering alcoholic and survivor of childhood abuse, shares his first year of recovery—not as a doctor, but as someone who has lived it.

Through personal reflections, strategies, and hard-earned lessons, he offers a guide for those battling addiction. From childhood trauma to public accountability, Matt’s story proves that change is possible, no matter how deep the struggle.

The proceeds form the sale of this book supports the sober coach hub and the initiative, helping others on their path to recovery.
